PC Cleaning Guide | Monitor Cleaning Guide

I clean my PC about once every two/three months. So far, I haven’t encountered any problems. So sharing my method here.

To clean your PC, you'll need the following items:
  • Screwdrivers
  • Blower
  • Soft Cloths
  • Brush
  • Glass Cleaner
  • Toilet Tissue
Here’s a simple guide for cleaning your PC:
  • Disconnect all cables from the case.
  • Remove the front and side panels of the case.
  • First, remove the GPU (graphics card).
    • Unplug the power cables from the GPU.
    • Remove the screws that secure the GPU to the case.
    • There’s a clip at the back of the GPU attached to the motherboard—release it.
    • Gently pull the GPU out.
    • Watch a video tutorial here
  • Remove all fans.
    • Remove casing fans with screwdriver.
    • For the CPU cooler fan, note which slot it’s connected to on the motherboard.
    • For air coolers, the fan usually has a wire connected to the motherboard—keep track of that.
    • For liquid coolers, the fan is generally screwed onto the heatsink—unscrew it.
  • Use a blower to clean all the areas.
    • Hold the fan blades in place with something like a stick or screwdriver while blowing air to prevent them from spinning.
    • Blow air through the heatsink on the cooler.
  • Use the brush to clean dust off the heatsink.
  • Wipe the all fan blades with a soft cloth.
  • Clean the GPU with a blower and wipe its fans with a cloth. Spray glass cleaner on gpu backplate and clean it with tissue.
  • Remove and clean the RAM.
    • To remove the RAM, release the clips on both sides of the RAM slots.
    • After cleaning, reinsert the RAM by pressing down until the clips click into place.
  • Remove the PSU with screwdriver and clean the fan with a blower. Hold the fan blades in place with something like a stick or screwdriver while blowing air to prevent them from spinning.
  • Finally, wipe down the inside of the case with a cloth to remove any dust.
  • Reassemble everything in the reverse order.
Make sure everything is securely connected and properly reinstalled before turning your PC back on.

Here’s a simple guide for cleaning your Monitor:
  • Lay the monitor on a flat, soft surface like a bed.
  • Gently wipe it with a soft cloth.
  • Tear two parts of toilet tissue, place one on top of the other, and hold them together. Spray glass cleaner onto the tissue.
  • Slowly wipe the monitor with the tissue, applying gentle pressure.

I use this as a blower. I didn’t know that it can also be used for vacuum cleaning. Any regular blower will do the job. You can find inexpensive Chinese blowers at local electronics stores. If you prefer, you can also buy from Startech, Techland, or Ryans—everything they have is Chinese.

I use this glass cleaner. You can buy any glass cleaner from local shops, but make sure it specifies that it is suitable for cleaning electronics in the description.
